Morning Cuts (Afternoon Edition) August 21, 2011

And so the streak of posting morning cuts actually in the morning ends at 1. A new record!

  • Charlie Morton went six fairly strong innings last night, scattering seven hits and a walk as the Bucs took game two of the three game series against the Reds, 5-3 (box)
  • The Trib’s Rob Biertempfel tweeted yesterday that the Pirates will probably use some combination of Brad Lincoln and Ross Ohlendorf to pitch one of the doubleheader games on Monday and game three of the series against the Brewers Tuesday.
  • Jennifer Langosch reports seeing Tony Watson in the Pirates clubhouse, and it is about freaking time.
  • The Pirates sold out their eighth consecutive Saturday home game yesterday, with a crowd of 37,826. They are three sellouts away from tying the all-time PNC park record for sellouts in a season.
  • Some Philadelphia Eagle is angry at Ramon Foster for hitting below the knees during Thursday night’s preseason game. Since the Eagle is not named Vick, Jackson, Asomugha, Maclin, McCoy, or Samuel, nobody cares what he has to say.
Must Read of the Day:
  • Dan Shaughnessy is insufferable. Everybody knows this. But this… this thing he submitted to SI.com is grotesque, even for him. Read it and weep vomit.

  • Reds (Leake) vs. Pirates (Macdonald) at 1:15. Bucs try to take a home series in front of what promises to be another large crowd at PNC.
